Airport cycling route

New cycling route for residents, employees & cycling enthusiasts

Together, Schwechat, Fischamend and Vienna Airport, with the support of the State of Lower Austria, have realized a bike route for residents, employees and bike enthusiasts. This route not only connects the communities with the airport, but also closes the gap between Vienna's city center and Lower Austria. The airport is now also easily accessible for everyone by bicycle.

The new airport bike route runs from the municipality of Schwechat via Vienna Airport to the municipality of Fischamend and its flat terrain makes it well suited for cycling. Around 35,000 people live in the immediate vicinity of the airport. Approximately 20,000 people work at Vienna Airport, of whom about 40% come from Lower Austria and about 40% from Vienna. The good infrastructure as well as the excellent network with connections to main and secondary routes enable an environmentally friendly handling of the daily journeys between work, shopping and leisure time.

Links to main routes include the Thermenregion cycle path, the Danube Cycle Path South and North, the Danube Floodplains National Park and Lake Neusiedl. To support an increase in traffic along the 17 km long bike route, attractive bike parking facilities, Nextbike rental bike stations and a well-signposted bike guidance system have been built.
