Vienna Airport Supports Ukrainian Airports: Five special vehicles handed over during a delegation visit to Vienna

Vienna Airport and the Association Airports of Ukraine of civil aviation (AAUCA) signed a corresponding Memorandum of Understanding in the spring of 2025 as the basis for supporting Ukrainian airports. Five special airport vehicles were donated and handed over to the Ukrainians airports, members of the Association, within the context of a delegation visit to Vienna Airport. The agreement was signed by Artur Hordienko, President of the charitable organization Charitable fund “Help and support”, Petro Lypovenko, President of the Association Airports of Ukraine of civil aviation and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and Vice President of the Austrian Airports Association (Working Group of Austrian Commercial Airports - AÖV). The initiative underlines the clear commitment of Vienna Airport to provide support to the Ukrainian aviation sector in these challenging times, contribute its know-how and participate in future reconstruction work.

Vienna Airport made two de-icing vehicles, two multi-functional vehicles for airside purposes as well as one Unimog utility vehicle available to the Ukrainian airports. Furthermore, within the context of a delegation visit taking place from 26-28 August 2025, the focus was on ensuring a professional exchange of know-how and views on specific airport-related fields such as passenger experience, VIP & General Aviation Terminal services and operations, ground handling and cargo operations, airside services and strategy development.

“The situation for Ukrainian airports is extremely difficult due to the war. Many facilities have been destroyed, and operations have been largely terminated. Nevertheless, the airports are already dealing with the challenges of rebuilding and restoring the airport infrastructures and resuming regularly scheduled, nationwide flight operations after what will hopefully be the speedy end to this conflict. In our role as Vienna Airport, we want to support them in making the necessary preparations,” states Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and Vice President of the Austrian Airports Association (AÖV).

“This support on the part of Vienna Airport is of great value to us. The urgently needed equipment and the know-how exchange with our Austrian colleagues are helping us to prepare for the future and to restore safe, efficient and passenger-oriented operations in the Ukraine as soon as possible,” says Petro Lypovenko, President of the Association Airports of Ukraine of civil aviation (AAUCA).

Cooperation between Vienna Airport and the Association Airports of Ukraine of civil aviation
The focus of the cooperation is the professional exchange among the airports, the evaluation of potential synergies and the identification of future joint market potential. Moreover, Vienna Airport will make special airport vehicles and technical equipment available to Ukrainian airports, members of the Association, in order to further strengthen the operational infrastructure. Vienna Airport is already positioned as a high-performance transport and logistics hub between East and West for the benefit of the Austrian economy. In addition, Vienna Airport is successfully active in close geographical proximity to the Ukraine thanks to its strategic stake in Kosice Airport, located only 100 km from the Ukrainian border.
