China Airlines and Vienna Airport Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Direct Flights Linking Vienna and Taipei

China Airlines and Vienna Airport can look back at two decades of cooperation. In May 2005, the first flight from Taipei operated by the Taiwanese airline landed in Vienna. Since then, China Airlines has been strengthening the long-haul flight offering from Vienna Airport thanks to its regular non-stop flights, making an important contribution to the economic, tourism and cultural relations between Austria and Taiwan. The 20th anniversary of the flight connection was celebrated today at an official photo session attended by Jovi Tseng, General Manager of China Airlines in Austria, Hans Suan-Yung Liu, Mission Chief of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria, and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

“For two decades, China Airlines has been a trusted partner and a valued contributor to Vienna Airport’s development. Taipei is among the most popular long-haul destinations in our route network – with approximately 1.5 million passengers having travelled on the China Airlines route since 2005. Through its ongoing commitment, China Airlines continues to enhance our role as a strategic aviation hub and underlines Vienna’s significance in global air travel. We are pleased to celebrate this anniversary together,” says Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

“For 20 years we have connected Vienna and Taipei and thus two economically and culturally significant regions. From the very beginning, the partnership with Vienna Airport has been characterised by trust and ongoing development. Vienna Airport is an important European hub for us and we are very pleased about the good cooperation,” states Jovi Tseng, General Manager of China Airlines in Austria.

Four direct flights each week from Vienna to Taipei – Gateway to Asia
Since the year 2005, China Airlines has linked Vienna Airport to Taipei, a fascinating metropolis with a pulsating nightlife, traditional culture, and culinary diversity. Taiwan impresses visitors thanks to its imposing mountains, tropical coasts, and modern infrastructure, making it a real jewel in Asia. The flight connection is not only attractive for travellers flying on the direct Vienna-Taipei route. Thanks to the city’s favourable geographical location, the flight hub of Taipei offers short transfer times and optimal connections to important target markets such as Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, and Australia. For this reason, Taipei is a central hub for all flight traffic from Europe to Asia. The direct flights to Taipei operated by China Airlines depart from Vienna every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The flight connection deploying a modern Airbus A350 involves a flight time of about twelve hours.

China Airlines: Taiwan’s national carrier
