Fly in a Dreamliner to Copenhagen: Ethiopian Airlines Expands its Offering at Vienna Airport

Africa’s largest airline is expanding its flight services at Vienna Airport. Starting today, 22 May 2023, Ethiopian Airlines operates four weekly flights to Copenhagen in addition to the existing routes to Addis Ababa and Brussels. Ethiopia’s national airline links the two European capital cities each week, deploying a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. A highlight for passengers is flying to Copenhagen in a comfortable long-haul aircraft in less than two hours. The new route was officially opened today by Lemma Yadecha Gudeta, CCO of Ethiopian Airlines and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport, within the context of a photo session.

“The expansion of Ethiopian Airlines in Vienna underlines the confidence airlines have in the performance of our airport as an international flight hub. Nine years after the launch of flight service on the Vienna-Addis Ababa route, Ethiopia’s flag carrier now also operates flights to Copenhagen in addition to Brussels. In turn, this increases the offering of comfortable flight connections in Vienna. Copenhagen is a great city for sightseeing and weekend trips. We are very pleased with this new route from Vienna Airport and the closer cooperation with Ethiopian Airlines,” states Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

"We are delighted to open a new route to Copenhagen via Vienna Airport, which features a dense network of European destinations as well as long-haul flights to many destinations, including Africa. With the launch of this flight, Copenhagen will become a crucial gateway for Ethiopian Airlines in northern Europe and southern Scandinavia. Thanks to the wide network of Ethiopian Airlines across Africa, the new flight will enhance the air connectivity between Europe and Africa thereby facilitating trade, tourism, and diplomatic relations between the two continents. As of today, Copenhagen will be our 21st destination in Europe, “remarked Lemma Yadecha Gudeta, CCO of Ethiopian Airlines.

“Both our business travelers and tourists will benefit from the wide range of connections and optimally coordinated flight schedules provided by Ethiopian Airlines Group. They can conveniently connect from Vienna directly six times a week to our extensive network of 63 destinations in Africa. Additionally, we provide enhanced accessibility and comfort for passengers connecting from Vienna directly to Copenhagen in Scandinavia. We are delighted to offer our passengers two pieces of 23KG baggage allowances, a delectable meal, and the warm Ethiopian hospitality they deserve. Vienna Airport serves as a strategic hub, connecting Africa to Eastern Europe and now extending to Scandinavia. We appreciate the crucial role played by Vienna Airport in facilitating this endeavor," emphasized Saba G. Kassaye, General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines for Austria and Eastern Europe.

The flight connection from Vienna to Copenhagen is served every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Ethiopian Airlines always takes off in the morning at about 7 a.m. and will touch down again in Vienna on the same day at around 9 p.m. The flight time between Vienna and Copenhagen is less than two hours. Copenhagen as the capital of Denmark is a popular tourist destination. Probably the most well-known national symbol of the city is the Little Mermaid statue by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade, which is based on the fairy tale of the same name by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
