DoN is the New Catering Partner for Vienna Airport Lounges

Starting on 16 March 2021, the gastronomy group DoN led by Josef Donhauser will handle the catering at the exclusive passenger lounges of Vienna Airport. With its focus on regional products and its Austria origins, DoN would like to leverage the lounges as a hub for a strong brand message highlighting national dishes and beverages. Effective immediately, passengers can enjoy the high-quality catering of DoN in the 670m² Sky Lounge in Terminal 3, which is currently being used as the central lounge area for all passengers.

Vienna, 15 March 2021 – As Austria’s largest privately managed catering company, DoN now offers tailor-made catering solutions for the exclusive lounges at Vienna Airport. The focus of the product offering is on Austrian specialities from small-scale production but with a regional importance. In this regard, DoN will primarily rely on Austrian producers and suppliers. Special products from one particular federal province will be highlighted in the future, amongst other activities, for example the traditional Carinthian cake called the Reindling or traditional Viennese apple strudel.

A voluntary labelling of origin describing the ingredients used, going above and beyond existing legal requirements, is designed to inform guests about the precise composition of the food. DoN has already been attaching great importance to the voluntary labelling of foodstuffs such as eggs and meat since 2016 in accordance with an initiative of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. This transparent information service is being successfully applied elsewhere, including on board long-distance trains operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).

Even greater elegance for the lounges
In addition to the strong emphasis on Austrian products, a brand refresh is the main priority on the agenda. Whether it is the elegant uniforms or the noble dishware, the look and feel of the entire DoN concept conforms to the high demands of the airport lounges.

“We are extremely pleased that our concept featuring a strong focus on regionality and the tried and tested DoN guarantee of freshness turned out to be convincing in the international tender of Vienna Airport. The use of high-quality, regional ingredients and the healthy way of preparing dishes have been at the heart of our activities for a long time. We will accompany our guests on a journey to savour the culinary specialities from all corners of the country, enabling everyone to be taken to new heights in enjoying these delicacies”, says Josef Donhauser, CEO of the DoN Group, who is looking forward to the new collaboration. DoN has also been serving as the catering partner of the business lounges run by Austrian Airlines since September 2020.

Passenger check-in is currently being handled centrally in Terminal 3 due to the low passenger volumes at Vienna Airport caused by the coronavirus pandemic. At present, passengers have the spacious and exclusively designed 175-seat Sky Lounge on the second floor of Terminal 3 at their disposal, covering an area of 670 m². The other terminal areas will be reactivated once again as soon as this is warranted by increasing passenger traffic. Moreover, Terminal 2, where modernisation work will be completed by that time, will offer a completely new, large and very exclusive lounge area which is also served by DoN.

“Passenger traffic is still quite limited at the present time. However, people will be able to travel more once again once more and more vaccinations are given and internationally recognised testing and vaccination certificates are hopefully introduced. We want to offer them a perfect lounge experience, and we are delighted to have DoN on board as our new catering partner”, states Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Flughafen Wien AG.
