Vienna Airport: Unified international travel regulations and comprehensive coronavirus testing programmes are necessary for travellers from crisis regions – This ensures greater safety and strengthens Austria as a business and tourism location – lack of freedom to travel endangers Austrian companies dependent on exports

Vienna Airport and other airports have already successfully introduced COVID-19 PCR tests for travellers – Vienna Airport has reduced the price for PCR tests

“The Austrian Federal Government has created good and important prerequisites for enabling healthy travelling by renouncing the idea of landing bans and moving in the direction of increased testing for travellers from high-risk countries within the context of the new entry regulations in effect since the beginning of August. The main issue here is the ability to take important business trips. This is because internationally operating Austrian companies dependent on exports have to be able to get to the facilities built or serviced by them or have the possibility to acquire new projects. Otherwise there is the danger of serious economic consequences. In this regard, it is important to introduce unified international travel regulations and comprehensive testing programmes for travellers from high-risk countries, as Austrian Airlines has called for. This will ensure safety based on the early detection of infections. Clearly defined controls in accordance with stringent unified standards are necessary, especially when entering the Schengen area from high-risk countries. In this case there are very different approaches on an international level. Standardised regulations have been successfully established for many years, particularly in the aviation sector, for example when it comes to safety and air transport, and the sector has adjusted to the current situation. Medically controlled PCR tests have been offered at Vienna Airport since the beginning of May 2020, and about 15,000 such tests have been carried out since then. In the meantime, other European airports also offer similar solutions”, explains Günther Ofner, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.

PCR test at Vienna Airport available at a lower price starting 8 August 2020
The fee charged for the PCR tests at Vienna Airport have been significantly reduced starting 8 August 2020. Passengers will get internationally valid COVID-19 test results for € 120 (instead of € 190).  The results will be known in three to six hours. The tests are carried out daily from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the Vienna Airport Health Centre located in Office Park 3. It is not necessary to register in advance.
