March 2019 Traffic Results: Strong Growth of Flughafen Wien AG - 19.0% Rise in Passenger Volume for the Flughafen Wien Group, 23.9% Increase at Vienna Airport
 
Strong growth was reported once again by Flughafen Wien AG. In March 2019, the total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose by 19.0% to 2.9 million travellers. The accumulated passenger volume in the period January-March was up by 19.9% to 7.3 million. Vienna Airport registered a substantial increase in passenger volume of 24.6% to 6.1 million travellers in the first three months of 2019.
 
Vienna Airport: Very strong growth of passenger volume and flight movements
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of March 2019 rose by 23.9% compared to the prior-year month to 2,365,089 travellers. The number of local passengers increased sharply by 27.5%, and transfer passenger volume was up by 10.4%. The number of flight movements in March 2019 also showed a substantial increase of 16.0% year-on-year. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport dropped slightly by 1.4% from the comparable level of March 2018.
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Western Europe climbed by 22.7% in March 2019, and passenger traffic to Eastern Europe showed an increase of 29.1%. In March 2019, the number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 8.4% from the prior-year month, and passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations was up by 18.9%. Passenger volume to North America also developed positively, rising by 17.8% in March 2019, and the number of passengers travelling to Africa increased by 9.2% year-on-year.
 
Malta Airport reported an increase in passenger volume of 1.3% in the month of March 2019, whereas Kosice Airport registered a decline of 9.9% in the number of passengers it handled.
