September 2017 - Traffic Results: Increase in Passenger Volume of the Flughafen Wien Group to 3.1 Million (+6.0%)
 
The total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, Kosice Airport) in September 2017 rose by 6.0% to 3.1 million travellers. The accumulated passenger volume in the period January-September 2017 showed an increase of 8.1% to 23.7 million. Vienna Airport also developed very well, with the total number of passengers up 5.7% from January to September 2017.
 
Vienna Airport in September 2017: passenger volume up 3.3%
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of September 2017 increased by 3.3% compared to the prior-year month to 2,430,343 travellers. The number of local passengers was up by 2.1%, and transfer passenger volume climbed by 6.3%. In September 2017, the number of flight movements fell slightly by 0.4% in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed an increase of 3.1% from the comparable level of September 2016.  
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Eastern Europe climbed 8.5% in September 2017, whereas passenger traffic to Western Europe rose by 2.4%. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 8.5% in September 2017 from the prior-year month, in contrast to the 7.7% drop in passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations. The number of passengers travelling to North America was down by 4.7%, whereas passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 49.7%.  
 
Malta Airport reported strong growth in passenger volume of 16.7% in the month of September 2017, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying year-on-year rise of 20.0% in the number of passengers it handled.
