Traffic Results in February 2017 – Strong Increase in Passenger Volume of the Flughafen Wien Group to 1.7 Million Passengers (+6.5%)
 
Since the beginning of the year, the total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport and the strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) climbed 8.7% to 3.5 million. The Vienna Airport hub also developed very well, with the number of passengers rising by 5.5%.     
 
Vienna Airport in February 2017: 3.2% rise in passenger volume
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of February 2017 increased by 3.2% from the prior-year month to 1,392,409. The number of local passengers was up 5.1%, in contrast to a 3.0% drop in transfer passenger volume. In February 2017, the number of flight movements was down 5.1% in a year-on-year comparison. However, adjusted for the leap year in 2016, the number of flight movements were down by 1.3%. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport fell by 1.7% from February 2016, which is related to the Chinese New Year.
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Western Europe was up 3.3% in February 2017, whereas passenger traffic to Eastern Europe fell by 0.1%. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East was up 12.7% in February 2017, and passenger volume to Middle East destinations climbed by 16.9%. The number of passengers travelling to North America was down 21.0%, whereas passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 22.9%.     
 
Malta Airport reported very strong growth in passenger volume of 25.2% in February 2017, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying rise of 7.5% in the number of passengers it handled.
