Traffic Results in January 2017: Strong Growth in Passenger Volume of the Flughafen Wien Group to 1.8 Million Passengers (+10.8%)
 
The Flughafen Wien Group consisting of Vienna Airport and the strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport reported substantial passenger growth of 10.8% in January 2017. The Vienna Airport hub also developed very well, with the number of passengers rising by 7.9% to 1.4 million.    
 
Vienna Airport in January 2017: Very good development showing 7.9% increase in passenger volume
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of January 2017 increased considerably, climbing 7.9% from the prior-year month to 1,445,076. In particular, the good passenger development on the part of Austrian Airlines, Eurowings and easyJet had a positive impact. The number of local passengers was up 9.1%, and transfer passenger volume also rose by 3.2%. The number of flight movements increased slightly by 0.8% in January 2017 in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport fell by 8.0% from the level reported in January 2016, which is also due to the earlier Chinese New Year in 2017.
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations to Western Europe was up 8.2% in January 2017, and passenger traffic to Eastern Europe rose by 5.2%. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East declined marginally by 0.2%, in contrast to the 14.7% increase in passenger volume to the Middle East. The number of passengers travelling to North America was down 10.2%, whereas passenger traffic to Africa climbed by 8.8%.    
 
Malta Airport reported very strong growth in passenger volume of 27.3% in January 2017, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying rise of 8.8% in the number of passengers it handled.
