Traffic Development in September 2016: Flughafen Wien Group Reports Passenger Volume of 2.9 Million (+3.6%)
 
The total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) has climbed 2.2% to 21.9 million since the beginning of the year, 16th September 2016 highest single-day passenger volume in the airport’s history
 
Vienna Airport in September 2016: 3.2% increase in the number of passengers, 1.4% rise in cargo volume
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of September 2016 totalled 2,352,027, comprising a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. On September 16th, the highest passenger volume for a single-day in the airport’s history, at 89,361, was recorded. The number of local passengers was up 4.9%, whereas transfer passenger volume declined slightly by 1.1%. The number of flight movements rose 0.4% in September 2016 from the prior-year month. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport increased by 1.4% compared to September 2015.
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Western Europe was up 3.0%, and passenger traffic to Eastern Europe rose by 2.5%. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East was down 5.1% in September 2016 in contrast to the 23.1% increase in passenger volume to the Middle East. The number of passengers travelling to North America was up 0.9%, whereas the number of passengers flying to destinations in Africa fell by 5.1%.  
 
Malta Airport also reported growth in passenger volume, which increased by 5.8% in September 2016, whereas Kosice Airport reported a drop of 1.7% in the number of passengers it handled.
 
Presentation of traffic results
Following the increase of the stake held by Flughafen Wien AG in Malta Airport at the end of March 2016, the strategic investment is fully consolidated in the interim consolidated financial statements of the Flughafen Wien Group beginning at the end of the first quarter of 2016. For this reason, the entire traffic results for Flughafen Wien AG and its foreign strategic investments have been included in the monthly reports since April 2016. The traffic results for Vienna Airport correspond to the comparable values of the monthly announcements of traffic results up to and including the month of March 2016.
