Modernised Check-in 1 reopens today

Starting today all airberlin and NIKI flights will be handled in Check-in 1

Airlines using Check-in 2 will relocate to Check-in 1A

The modernisation of the infrastructure at Vienna Airport is proceeding at full speed:
Check-in 1, which was closed for refurbishing, is reopening today, on 9 January 2013. This terminal will now handle all flights by NIKI and airberlin as well as other carriers. The revitalisation of the building included the addition of new check-in and ticket counters, the installation of a modern lighting concept and remodelling of the ceiling and walls. Also starting today, the airlines that previously used Check-in 2 will relocate to Check-in 1A. Check-in 2 will now be closed to allow for work on the underlying baggage sorting equipment, which will shorten passenger routes from the B- and C-Gates to the central arrivals hall. A new covered passenger walkway has already been added from the central arrivals hall to Car Park 3.

More space and a separate parking area for airberlin and NIKI passengers

The modernised Check-in 1 will bring greater travel comfort, above all for NIKI and airberlin passengers: 30 check-in counters and 8 self-check-in terminals are now available on approx. 3,500 m² of terminal space. A new priority zone has been created for top bonus frequent flyers. The security controls also include fast lanes for top bonus platinum, gold and silver customers. Passengers using Check-in 1 will find two large baggage counters, two customs counters and porter service. With the reopening of Check-in 1, the nearby Car Park 3 will become very attractive: a short, covered walkway leads directly to the terminal and a separate parking area is available for holders of top bonus platinum, gold and silver cards. The other airlines that will also use Check-in 1 in the future are: Aegean Airlines, Air France, Finnair, Alitalia, British Airways, China Airlines, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Jat Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Tarom, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines and Transaero Airlines.

For shorter passenger routes: Check-in 2 will close on 9 January 2013

The successful start of operations in the new Check-in 1 will be followed by the further modernisation of the terminal infrastructure. In order to improve the movement of passengers from Gates B and C to the central arrival hall, Check-in 2 was closed today. The underlying baggage sorting equipment will now be dismantled to create a more direct and shorter route from the B- and C-Gates to the central arrivals hall in Check-in 3. This will substantially shorten the walk for incoming passengers through the old baggage claim area. From the current point of view, this work should be completed in spring 2013. A concept for the redesign of Check-in 2 is being prepared at the same time, and a decision on this project is expected during the first half of 2013. Starting today, the following airlines will handle passengers in Check-in 1A: Air Baltic, Belle Air Europe, Easyjet Airlines, Free Bird Airlines, Germanwings, Intersky, Jet2.com Air services, Norwegian, Ostfriesische Lufttransport GmbH, Pegasus Airlines, Peoples Viennaline, RAK Airways, Skyworkairlines, Sunexpress, Syrianair, Transavia Holland, Tuifly.com, Vueling Airlines S.A. and WDL Flugdienst.
