Flughafen Wien: Management Board takes further steps to increase productivity - restructuring of “Construction“ - completion of management team with additional appointments

The Management Board has now taken additional steps to increase productivity and expand management capacity: As of 1 January 2012 all construction projects at the airport will be combined under a central department and the Technical Services department will be reorganised. Together with the bundling of purchasing activities in the new “Central Procurement“ department and the centralisation of controlling functions in the “Strategy & Controlling“ department, Flughafen Wien has further improved its organisation. Key management positions were also filled. The Supervisory Board of Flughafen Wien AG was informed of these decisions at today’s meeting.

Strengthening of construction expertise: new construction unit as of 1 January 2012

Construction activities at Vienna Airport are diverse and range from smaller operational buildings to car parks and parking areas, taxiways and apron facilities as well as the creation of terminals and other high-rise structures. As of 1 January 2012 these areas will be combined and responsibilities will be expanded to include facility management. This step will place all planning, construction and building service activities under a single reporting line, with the goal of improving the realisation of construction projects and strengthening the role of Flughafen Wien as the builder-owner. This reorganisation will also reduce the need for external consultants and thereby meet a major recommendation by the Austrian auditor general’s office. Norbert Steiner has been appointed as the new head of “Planning and Construction“.

New management for finance, general secretariat and operations

In connection with the redesign of the corporate organisation, internal and external tenders were held and further decisions were taken on management positions that were vacant or filled on an interim basis. Wolfgang Köberl (35), who has been with the company for seven years, will take over as the head of the General Secretariat/Legal Department on 1 December 2011. Nikolaus Gretzmacher (36) was appointed head of “Operations“; he previously worked in the airline marketing department of Flughafen Wien.

Rita Heiss (42) has been appointed as the head of “Finance and Accounting“. She has many years of experience in accounting and controlling as well as a financial managing director.

Together with the previously appointed department heads Andreas Eder (Central Procurement) and Wolfgang Fasching (Handling), these latest appointments represent further steps to complete the future management team of Flughafen Wien AG.
