Traffic results in March 2017: Passenger volume of the Flughafen Wien Group increases to 2.1 million (+3.4%)
 
Since the beginning of the year, the total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport and the strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose 6.6% to 5.6 million. The Vienna Airport hub also developed very well, showing a 3.7% increase in the number of passengers in the period January to March 2017.
 
Vienna Airport in March 2017: 0.8% rise in passenger volume
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of March 2017 increased by 0.8% compared to the prior-year month to 1,725,303 (although the Easter holidays first take place in April this year). The number of local passengers was up 0.5%, and transfer passenger volume climbed by 1.4%. In March 2017 the number of flight movements fell by 1.7% in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed a strong increase of 12.2% from March 2016.  
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Eastern Europe was up 5.3% in March 2017, and passenger traffic to Western Europe rose by 0.5%. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 1.5% in March 2017, in contrast to the 0.2% drop in passenger volume to Middle East destinations. The number of passengers headed towards North America was down 26.5%, whereas passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 10.0%.
 
Malta Airport reported a very strong growth in passenger volume of 16.3% in the month of March 2017, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying rise of 9.2% in the number of passengers it handled.
