For many years Flughafen Wien AG has been intensively involved with the training of young persons. The trainee professions available range from office management assistant and electrician to auto mechanic, plant electrician, agricultural machinery technician, HAC technician, machine maintenance technician and bodywork technician.
Administrative trainees rotate through various departments during their three-year training so as to learn about the company in all its complexity from different perspectives.
In the welcome week trainees find out about the specific activities in the airport and receive security training and can also take courses in communication and telephone skills and IT. During the training there are weekly English and IT classes and regular advanced training activities.
For commercial trainees a three-week exchange takes place every year with Munich Airport as part of the EU-funded Leonardo da Vinci programmes during which Austrian trainees can find out about the routine activities in Munich, while colleagues from Munich learn about Vienna Airport.
Flughafen Wien AG also takes part in the Austrian Trainee Day and Viennese Daughter Day. In 2008 it won first prize in the Transport and Traffic category of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Economics Trainee Trainer Trophy, which is awarded for innovative trainee training companies.
Every year the company takes part in the Job Jet Fair in Schwechat to inform qualified students about the career prospects at Vienna Airport.
