Arrive at the airport on time

Please arrive at the airport in good time:

  • 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and for international flights up to 6 hours flight time.
  • 3 hours before departure for international flights with a flight time of 6 hours or more, and for flights to Tel Aviv, New York and Toronto.

The right terminal

Your airline determines which terminal you check in at. There are three terminals in Vienna: Terminal 1, Terminal 1A and Terminal 3.

List of all airlines at Vienna Airport (with terminal and contact details)

From Terminal 1 you can reach Gates B, C and D and from Terminal 3 you can reach Gates F and G.

Online check-in

You can check in quickly and easily online from home - up to 48 hours before departure, depending on the airline. Check in on your airline's website.

Boarding Pass

  1. Go to your airline's website and check in according to the instructions.
  2. If everything has gone smoothly, you will receive your boarding pass as a scannable QR code by email or SMS. You can also print out your boarding pass (at home).
  3. Have your printed boarding pass or your smartphone with SMS or mail with QR code ready on your way to the security check.
  4. Scan the QR code as you pass through the security checkpoint.
  5. At the gate, you will need your Boarding Pass or, once again, your SMS or e-mail with QR code on your smartphone.
  6. Checking in your baggage
  7. Use the self check-in machines at the airport or check in your baggage at the counter with the help of a member of staff.

Self Check-in

Check-in machines are available in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 to print out your boarding passes and baggage tags. Please contact your airline directly to find out about the options available.

  1. You can check in at one of the check-in machines using either your credit or frequent flyer card, your last name, your booking code, or by scanning your passport.
  2. Follow the instructions given by the machine.
  3. You will receive either your boarding pass only or your boarding pass and luggage tag, depending on the airline's offer.
  4. Proceed to the baggage claim counter or boarding pass control and from there to your gate.

Check-in counter

Would you like to check in and check your baggage directly at the counter? No problem. Find the right counter for your flight and airline on the screens in the departure lounge up to 3 hours before departure.

Most check-in counters are open at least until 75 minutes before departure. Have your passport ready, possibly your ticket with flight number, if necessary also a valid visa.

CAT City Check-in

In the heart of the city in Wien Mitte-Landstraße (U3, U4, S-Bahn, public transport) you will find attended check-in counters and the possibility of self check-in for selected airlines.

Use the service of the City Air Terminal and take the City Airport Train (CAT) to the airport in just 16 minutes after check-in.

You can also check in your luggage earlier and take another leisurely stroll through the city.
