The number of passengers handled at Vienna International Airport fell by 12.1% year-on-year to 1,155,452 in January 2009. However, this figure still exceeds the level recorded in January 2007.
Declines were also recorded in flight movements with 9.3%, maximum take-off weight (MTOW) with 8.2% and cargo with 22.7%. The number of local passengers was 11.5% lower and totalled 788,747.
In comparison with January 2008, the number of passengers travelling to Eastern Europe fell by 15.9% and traffic to the Middle East by 0.3%.
Forecast for 2009 remains intact with decline of 5% in passengers
In comparison with the high 12.8% increase in passenger volume recorded during the first six months of the previous year, Flughafen Wien AG is forecasting significantly weaker growth above all during the first half of 2009. The forecast for a decline of 5% in passengers during the full 12 months of 2009 remains intact.
