13.07.2006: 8.1% increase in passengers during the first half of 2006
Vienna International Airport handled a total of 7,859,467 passengers during the first six months of 2006, which represents an increase of 8.1% over the comparable period of the previous year. The strongest growth was recorded in the number of passengers travelling to the Middle East with a plus of 21.3% and the Far East with a plus of 15.1%.
Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) and flight movements rose by 4.6 and 2.8%, respectively. Cargo increased by a total of 22.7% during the first six months.
Strong growth in point-to-point traffic during June
In June 2006 the number of passengers at Vienna International Airport grew by 5.4%. This development was the result of an 8.4% increase in the number of passengers for whom Vienna is either the starting or ending point of the trip (point-to-point).
The upward trend in travel to the Middle East continued with a plus of 17.8% in passengers. Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) rose by 3.5% and flight movements by 1.7% in June. Air cargo and trucking recorded an increase of 9.6%.
