The decline in passenger traffic at Vienna International Airport continued to slow substantially during November 2009, with the number of passengers falling 1.8% year-on-year to 1,382,460. The number of passengers handled from January to November 2009 was 9.0% lower than the comparable period of 2008 and exactly reflects the forecast for this year.
Flight movements were 3.1% lower during November 2009, while maximum take-off weight (MTOW) declined 1.3%. In contrast, cargo rose by a strong 23.8% compared with November 2008. The number of transfer passengers fell by 2.6% to 419,728.
Passenger traffic to Eastern Europe (scheduled and charter flights) was 8.9% lower than in November of the previous year. Western Europe recorded a plus of 1.3% and the Middle East a plus of 0.5% in relation to November 2008.
The number of passengers travelling to European destinations from January to November 2009 decreased 8.8% year-on-year to 7,214,159. In contrast, traffic to the Middle East increased 5.7% during this same period.
