Skylink

What does the modern and rational architecture bring you? - It makes travelling even more convenient.

A clear concept of passenger flows on three levels, short and magageable distances, easier orientation for passengers and the prevention of a loss of time were important planning parameters.

These clear routes help significantly to make sure that the minimum connecting time of 25 minutes (the time needed by a passenger to catch his connecting flight) can be fulfilled, as Vienna Airport is an international leader in this respect. The resulting advantage for passengers and airlines is that the total period of a journey by air is kept as short as possible.

To create fastest possible and convenient transfer routes, arriving and departing Schengen and non-Schengen passengers are segregated in Skylink. This happens at the authority islands in the terminal and the pier, where the different passenger flows are segregated onto the respective levels.

What does the One-Roof Concept of Skylink bring you? - That you already feel heavenly on the ground.

The Skylink terminal characterises the image of the airport: on the one hand due to the noticeable design as overall architectural work and, on the other hand, due to the numerous special features, which make every stay even more pleasant.

The terminal expansion connects directly to the areas of the existing airport. This way, a spacious centre was created with all accesses to rail connections, the parking decks and the “airport city”. The hall with a height of 20 m along the entrance ramp combines all the levels of Skylink into a spatial experience, which is rounded off by the roof as the airport’s element of identification. It spans over the terminal area with its varying route relations and functions, and provides best possible means for orientation due the high halls and spacious façade surfaces. As a result, distances can be estimated and travelling becomes more convenient and pleasant.

The passengers and their well-being are the focal point of the new Skylink. That is why special attention was paid to comfort, quality and service during the planning phase. Colour conceptions intended to have stress-reducing and calming effects, special family zones and comfortable seating places, as well as modern shopping concepts and integrated art turn Skylink into more than a terminal.

What does a full glass façade bring you? -  The world's biggest sunglasses.

Openness and transparency are major foundations of the Skylink terminal. Due to its continuous glass façade, the terminal building is open towards the north as well as the south and thus enables a view over the apron, the runways and the surrounding landscape.

In addition to the clear view, the glass façade with its sunglass function also provides protection against heat and brightness.

Climate protection is a major issue for Vienna Airport. That is why two glass layers instead of one on the Skylink façade ensure that the total energy loss is particularly low and that the cost of energy for air-conditioning can be reduced drastically. In order to achieve this effect, the outer glass layer is coloured dark. As a result, the “sunglasses” of Skylink combine maximum transparency with a minimum cost of energy.
