Since 2004 Vienna Airport has been undergoing the greatest changes in its history. Alterations and extensions far in excess of any construction work to date are currently being carried out to create a new airport capable of meeting future demands.
VIE Metamorphosis provides a photographic record of this massive redesign of Vienna Airport as a distinctive gateway to the world and a visiting card for Austria.
VIE Metamorphosis shows the various phases: original buildings, demolition, construction, completion. As examples of the architectural styles of their time, the buildings and interiors that have been constructed at Vienna Airport in the last fifty years deserve one last look before they are demolished. The photographs taken during demolition and new construction capture the unrepeatable aesthetic of the temporary architecture before the start of a new era at Vienna Airport.
VIE Metamorphosis was initiated by the mutual loop artist cooperative and designed by Flughafen Wien AG together with the artists Roman Bönsch, Robert Fritz and Larry R. Williams.
