Thanks to its geographical position in the centre of Europe, it is one of the most important hubs for the growing number of destinations in central and eastern Europe.

Its growth strategy is also based on positive development of demand for flights to destinations in Asia and the Middle East and the above-average expansion of low-cost carriers. Vienna Airport was the point of arrival or departure for some 22.5 million passengers in 2014.

Flughafen Wien AG, one of the few quoted airport operators in Europe, was privatised in 1992.

Shareholders are:

  • province of Lower Austria: 20%

  • city of Vienna: 20%

  • private employee participation foundation: 10%

  • private shareholders: 50%
