February 2018 Traffic Results: Strong Growth in Passenger Volume of the Flughafen Wien Group to 1.9 Million (+8.8%)
 
Significant growth in passenger numbers and movements at Vienna Airport
 
The total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, Kosice Airport) in February 2018 rose by 8.8% year-on-year to 1.9 million travellers. The accumulated passenger volume in the period January-February 2018 showed an increase of 6.7% to 3.7 million. Vienna Airport also developed positively, with the total number of passengers up 4.2% from January to February 2018.
 
Vienna Airport in February 2018: passenger volume up 6.5%
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of February 2018 rose by 6.5% compared to the prior-year month to 1,483,432 travellers. The number of local passengers was up by 5.9%, whereas transfer passenger volume climbed by 9.6%. In February 2018, the number of flight movements also increased by 1.8% in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed a rise of 3.5% from the comparable level of February 2018.  
 
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Eastern Europe was up 11.0% in February 2018, and passenger traffic to Western Europe rose by 5.2%. In February 2018, the number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 22.4% from the prior-year month, whereas passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations decreased by 7.3%. The number of passengers travelling to North America was down by 4.1%, but passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 37.8%. 
 
Malta Airport reported strong growth in passenger volume of 18.0% in the month of February 2018, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying year-on-year rise of 27.6% in the number of passengers it handled.
