Today, 18 March 2010, marks the resumption of cargo flights between Vienna and Taipei by the Taiwanese airline EVA AIR. These flights will be serviced by Boeing 747s. The cargo machine will land in Vienna at 11.10 am on Thursdays and Sundays after a stopover in Delhi, and the return trip to Taipei via Brussels and Delhi begins at 1:10 pm.
Terry Ma, General Manager of EVA AIR in Austria, commented: “The decisive factors in favour of our decision to restart cargo flights to Vienna were the increase in demand for cargo transportation since the fourth quarter of 2009 and the beginning of economic recovery. Demand is very promising, above all from Central and Eastern Europe, and our primary goal is to meet this demand with additional capacity. We also want to use these new flights to strengthen our cargo business with the neighbouring countries in this region and to expand our market share.“
Herbert Kaufmann, member and speaker of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, added: “A key element of our strategic positioning for Vienna International Airport is to serve as an interface for cargo traffic between the consumer markets and production markets of Asia and Europe. We have established an excellent position in this sector, and are steadily increasing our market share. This development is supported not only by our high-quality services, but also by the airlines that rely on Flughafen Wien AG as a cargo partner. For this reason, we are particularly pleased over the resumption of cargo connections by EVA AIR“.
With the restart of cargo flights between Taipei and Vienna, EVA AIR is once again relying on Vienna International Airport as a hub and distribution centre in Central and Eastern Europe.
